Time'n' Place
A raffish beach bar built of driftwood, this place looks as
though it might blow away in the next storm. The setting is
so authentic that many fashion magazines, including Vogue, have
used it for background shots. The bartender makes the island's
best daiquiris. (Falmouth, east of Montego Bay; tel. 876-954-4371)
De Buss
This is the most frequented hangout on Negril Beach, staging
some of the best reggae concerts on the island. An international
crowd pours in each night; rum flows, and the jerk chicken is
good, too. (Negril; tel. 876-957-4405)
Jamaic'N Me Crazy
The most popular club in this resort area, this hot spot may
have the best lighting and sound system on the island. In winter,
the aura is virtually that of a New York club, so don't come
for an authentic Jamaican experience. (Ocho Rios; tel. 876-974-2201):
Dragon Bay
Actor Tom Cruise, who starred in the forgettable film Cocktail
here, is still honored at this bar, one of the hot spots to
meet the elite of Port Antonio. (Port Antonio; tel. 876-993-8751):
The Turntable Club
Since 1973, this battered, vintage nightclub has been going
strong, maintaining its high energy level even to this day.
The club evokes memories of Motown and the early years of reggae,
and still has great music. (Kingston; tel. 876/924-0164)
